Taster training
What about brushing up your wine tasting knowledge and skills? Training courses available!
Our tasting training courses are open to anyone who wants to prepare for the event.
These courses are the ideal way to familiarise yourself with the professional tasting process and the official evaluation form that you will need to use on the day.
What you should expect
Whether you are an experienced expert or a curious beginner, everyone is welcome!
During our course, you will learn step by step how to observe, smell, taste and evaluate a product. We will then introduce you to the technical vocabulary of the senses so that you can express your impressions accurately.
Practical and exciting
After a brief introduction, you will move on to the practical part:
we will taste several samples together under competition conditions. This will help you apply your new knowledge directly.
A standardised evaluation system
To ensure fair and comparable results, we use a 100-point grid that will help you objectively evaluate all aspects of a product.
At the end, you will receive an extract from the tasting sheet so that you can review it after the course.

Where to get training
These training courses are held in Frankfurt:
Wine tasting training (2 hours)
Trainer: Matthias Trick – WSET Level 4
Price: €39
Let your senses discover the world of wine! During our tasting course, learn how to classify and describe colours, aromas and flavours like a professional. Together, we will explore different grape varieties and wine styles, allowing you to gain in-depth knowledge and evaluate wines in a more informed way.
Beer tasting course
Trainer: Meinhard Wicht – Beer sommelier at the Deutschen BierAkademie
To participate in our BeerJudge programme, candidates must have a solid basic knowledge of beer.
Junior Beer Judge (3 hours):
Price: €79
During this intensive half-day seminar, we cover the main rules of conduct at a judging table, the different evaluation systems and personal objectivity when evaluating a beer. The aim of competition judges is not to taste the beers for themselves, but to ensure that they do not have any off-flavours and that they correspond as closely as possible to their style. We therefore present the different beers and beer styles and descriptions, and offer intensive training in professional tasting sessions.
Qualified Beer Judge (full day):
Price: €199
During our Qualified Beer Judge seminar, we focus in particular on the main off-flavours, their causes and how to avoid them. You will also learn how to identify and assess your perception and identification thresholds so that you can behave accordingly at the judging table. We will also train you in how to correctly classify colours and evaluate foam and turbidity. Finally, we will learn how to identify beer styles during a blind tasting and how to accurately distinguish between similar styles. We will look at the importance of historical context and regional specificities in this regard.
At the end of the course, we will assess your new knowledge in a test involving blind tasting of off-flavours and beer styles.
