Almost 3,000 wines, beers and spirits tasted:
Mainz, May 26, 2020: Due to the corona crisis the Frankfurt International Trophy had to reschedule and cancel the international tasting with more than 400 tasters and nearly 3,000 samples, dated for April 3 and 4, 2020, in the historic ballroom of the Gesellschaftshaus in Frankfurt, Germany. In spite of everything, the organizers managed to realize the tasting in an alternative format and to present the results to producers and retailers with a delay of just under a month. The results are available on the website of the competition since May 13.
Following the strictest safety measures and hygiene standards the almost 3,000 wines, beers and spirits have been tasted in the organisers' private tasting rooms. In the period from April 14 – May 9, 2020, a selected circle of tasters met to evaluate the samples "behind closed doors". The juries consisted of three people who tasted the samples in compliance with the minimum distances. The juries for the individual competitions consisted of experts such as sommeliers, oenologists, wine merchants, trade journalists, beer sommeliers, master brewers, distillers and noble brandy sommeliers.
The tasting director ensured that the samples were tasted in compliance with hygiene measures, competition regulations and ISO9001 certification at any time. This procedure was approved by the Hessian Ministry for Environment, Climate Protection, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
