More than 1400 wines from nearly 100 wine-growing regions and 25 countries across the globe were tasted in Frankfurt on 9 April 2017 at the first edition of the Frankfurt International Wine Trophy.

Almost 200 tasters
gathered that day in the historic hall of the famous Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten, which dates back to 1870 and is located in the heart of Frankfurt.

To take consumer tastes into account, the Frankfurt International Wine Trophy included 50 experienced amateurs in its juries. Alongside 150 experts (sommeliers, buyers, oenologists, journalists and wine merchants) from 20 countries, they tasted and honoured the world’s best wines by awarding important distinctions such as Frankfurt’s Grand Gold Medal.

In all, the tasters awarded medals to 425 wines:
- 69 Grand Gold medals
- 217 Gold medals
- 139 Silver medals

With 173 wines awarded medals, Germany came out far ahead, followed by France (72 wines), Italy (60 wines), Austria (33 wines), Spain (23 wines) and Portugal (20 wines).
New World wines also received a large number of medals, with a total of 18 award-winning wines coming from Australia, Chile, Argentina, South Africa and the United States.

The wine receiving the best marks for the 2017 edition is the DOC Delia Nivolelli Syrah Riserva 2010 from Caruso & Minini (Italy)
