Mainz, April 15, 2026. On April 9 and 10, 2026, the historic ballroom of the Gesellschaftshaus Palmengarten in Frankfurt opened its doors for the 10th anniversary edition of the Frankfurt International Trophy. Around 450 tasters from all over the world took part in the event, which is not only a tribute to the diversity of beverages but also to the cultural and economic importance of Frankfurt.
Mike Joseph, Mayor of the City of Frankfurt am Main, is the patron of the event.
He explains why Frankfurt provides the ideal stage for one of Europe’s most important competitions in the sector:
“Frankfurt am Main is not only a strong economic European metropolis located in the heart of Germany’s wine regions – it also has its own vineyard. The Lohrberg belongs to the renowned Rheingau region and is also a popular excursion destination. As a major financial and economic hub in the heart of Germany and Europe, Frankfurt is a perfect host city.”
This year’s honorary presidency was held by Patrick Jenal
He is the head chef of the renowned restaurant “Kunz” in St. Wendel. Since 2001, the creative chef – also a member of the Jeunes Restaurateurs d’Europe – has been presenting his French-Mediterranean cuisine with modern influences.
For Patrick Jenal, the Frankfurt International Trophy is “much more than a competition – it brings together cultures, craftsmanship and passion from all over the world. The medals awarded are not only distinctions but also important marks of trust that help consumers make informed choices.”
Anniversary Edition: Diversity, Consumer Focus and Olive Oil Premiere
The 10th edition once again highlights the competition’s unique approach: alongside professional expertise, the perspective of consumers is deliberately integrated into the evaluation process. The international jury – composed of sommeliers, oenologists and experienced amateurs – reflects consumer preferences and ensures that both quality criteria and taste play a decisive role.
The results therefore provide insight into both professional assessments and consumer acceptance, offering reliable guidance when selecting wines, beers, spirits and olive oils.
For the first time, olive oils were included in the tasting, expanding the scope of the competition.
This year, the competition recorded over 3,400 samples from 46 countries across the categories of wine, beer, spirits and olive oils. A total of 1,083 products received medals, including 147 awarded Grand Gold (92+ points).
